“Camille Coton says her number one tip for women in their 40s and 50s is to EXFOLIATE. As women age, your skin becomes drier and dead skin cells ‘sit’ on skin’s dermis making your skin dull & splotchy. Exfoliation helps strengthen the collagen & elastin proteins, encourages skin cell renewal, and removes the build up of rough dead skin and splotchiness due to age spots making your skin’s texture softer & smoother. This allows skin to better absorb active ingredients from other products, such as serums, etc. Exfoliating also improves circulation increasing oxygen & nutrients to the skin and helps with the appearance of fine lines.” We were honored to be included in this Dallas-based lifestyle blog www.ohsocynthia.com. Microbeads: What’s the Big Deal?
What is a microbead?
Microbeads have been used for years as exfoliators and scrubs. Most of you reading this have probably experienced them in multiple products. According to an article on CNN, “A microbead is any solid plastic particle that is less than 5 millimeters and is used for the purpose of exfoliating or cleansing.” There you have it.
What’s the big deal?
You have no doubt seen microbeads in the news in the last few months due to their being banned in the United States late last year. Controversy started when the microbeads were found to be increasingly harmful to the environment, and steps have been taken to exclude them from any products sold in the US.
According to the CNN article, the main reason the initiative got so much attention (and a bill was eventually signed by President Obama himself) is that the microbeads used in showers and sinks were clogging waterways. The article cites a study showing that “the volume [of microbeads] was enough to coat the surface of 300 tennis courts every day.” Now that’s a lot of microbeads! No wonder they were banned.
Why are microbeads harmful to my body?
It’s obvious the tiny beads are bad for the environment, and they can also be very harmful to your skin and your body. Any product containing plastic can be harmful to ingest. Our bodies weren’t made to process plastic, and even putting it on your skin results in some absorption.
Microbeads can also be quite damaging to the layers of your skin. They are coarse and scratchy, and they can strip your skin of its natural oils. Anything that is unnecessarily rough on skin can result in breakouts, scarring, and dry spots.
Camille Coton’s Commitment
Even before they were banned, Camille Coton’s founder Lisa Cohorn was knowledgeable about the potential dangers of microbeads. Not only are they harmful to waterways and, in turn, aquatic life, but they also cause undesirable and even dangerous effects for our bodies. Lisa developed a formula that uses natural ingredients to help dead skin cells separate from other skin layers. No microbeads means no scratching or scarring. In fact, Camille Coton’s soft microdermabrasion cream is just that – soft. It is non-irritating but still provides the exfoliation necessary for that gorgeous glow.
Your skin and your body are yours. Treat them with love and care by using products that are free of harsh beads/seeds, AHA/BHA acids, and enzymes. Soft natural oils are the way to go!

Microdermabrasion Questions Answered!
Isn’t Microdermabrasion a Scary Medical Spa Treatment?
Exfoliation and microdermabrasion seem like big, scary words only appropriate for medical spa treatments or super expensive, designer skin care products. We are here to tell you that they aren’t scary. And they are not just reserved for uber wealthy facial lovers. Microdermabrasion in particular has been thought to only be available as an in-depth spa treatment. Now, it is right at your fingertips in Camille Coton’s Smooth, Erase, Reveal skin care regimen. It consists of a soft microdermabrasion cream and a hydrating serum. The words soft and microdermabrasion seem to negate one another, but this is the kind of treatment that is recommended by dermatologists. Free from harsh, scratchy microbeads and irritating acids, the cream dissolves the dead skin cells while the dry wash cloth gently buffs the remaining cells away.
Why is microdermabrasion important?
Your skin has many layers, and in order to achieve that coveted glow, microdermabrasion is key. Think of an artist getting ready to paint something. He or she needs to start with a blank canvas to create a masterpiece. It is the same with your skin. Microdermabrasion makes your skin into a clean slate, clearing away all the unnecessary junk that clogs pores. In addition, incorporating microdermabrasion into your skincare regimen can cause the skin to be refreshed and bright. It is important to use high quality products at a recommended frequency of no more than 2-3 times per week. This helps your skin receive the optimum benefit without damaging it. Camille Coton’s formula is especially gentle. Our microbead-and-acid-free microdermabrasion cream removes dead skin cells without causing harmful irritation.
Why does frequency matter?
The microdermabrasion cream should be done 2-3 times per week for normal to oily skin, and once a week for dry or sensitive skin. Your skin needs time to fully regenerate before the next round of microdermabrasion. Treatments too often can cause the skin to become sensitive, thinner, and more susceptible to wrinkles. It can also cause irritation, splotchy complexion, and breakouts that result from stripping your skin of its natural oils. In short, a little microdermabrasion goes a long way and it’s important to find the right balance for your skin.
What do I do after microdermabrasion?
After exfoliation or microdermabrasion, it is important to make sure your skin is hydrated and nourished. It is recommended to apply a serum or moisturizing cream after treatment. Camille Coton’s Cotton BB Bloom Balm Oil serum helps the skin be rejuvenated and rebuilds the healthy layers. It also tones the skin, tightens pores, and evens out your skin tone so that your whole complexion is brighter and smoother.
Now you know why it’s important to add a microdermabrasion treatment and hydrating serum to your skincare routine. Think like a painter and exfoliate your way to a blank canvas. Who knows what kind of masterpiece awaits!

Reveal: Let Your True Self Shine
As we SMOOTHED out the edges of our lives and ERASED the negativity during the last two weeks on the blog, we talked about the benefits of eliminating the unnecessary junk in your life. During that process, we were getting ready for the last step, Reveal.
The only way to change or move forward is to assess how things really are–to REVEAL the truth and recognize its beauty.
After you let go of everything you don’t need or want, it’s time to embrace what you do have.
With all the negative stuff out of the way, you can see the beauty of your life, full of good things and good people.
Are you truly yourself?
Do you feel afraid to reveal the real you? Most (if not all) of us have felt this way before. You might be afraid to really say what you want. You could be scared someone is going to tell you, “no.” Or, you’re afraid of any kind of rejection so you don’t even try.
You might be putting on a front with people because you’re afraid of what could happen if you let down your guard. The truth is, people like honesty. It’s okay to let yourself shine through, even the parts that seem scary to reveal. After letting go of the negative parts of your life, what’s left is smooth, clean, and refreshed.
It is the same with our skin.
It’s easy to rely on makeup to feel beautiful, but accepting how you look naturally is important for self esteem. Camille Coton’s goal is to create products that remove the bad and unnecessary elements of your skin while enhancing the good, healthy elements.
After smoothing the microdermabrasion cream over your skin, erasing the dead skin cells and unnecessary layers, the third step is to reveal. This is the very best step because it celebrates the glow your skin has after being gently and thoroughly exfoliated. The BB Bloom Balm Oil Serum knits the healthy, refreshed skin after microdermabrasion. It uses Cotton Bloom extract to soothe the skin and licorice extract to help even out your skin tone. The oil serum is also rich in almond and Marula oil, both having a hydrating effect on the skin. Lastly, the serum has vitamins A, C, and E.
Let your skin be hydrated and toned while you enjoy the soft, clean feeling that Camille Coton’s skin care products provide. Reveal your inner beauty as you reveal the beauty of your rejuvenated skin. Embrace the you that’s been hiding, and let your true self shine!

ERASE: Let Yourself Let Go
After smoothing the edges of your skin and your life, the next step is to erase.
To erase can be one of the most difficult things to do–to truly commit to a fresh start. But your mind and body will thank you after you take the plunge.
What does it mean to erase?
The definition is to “remove all traces of.” In other words, let yourself fully let go of all traces of negativity in your life. We spend a lot of energy managing our negative emotions and forget that we can let go of them altogether.
Like we talked about in last week’s blog, the first step in Camille Coton’s skin care regimen is to smooth the microdermabrasion cream over your skin to cause dead skin cells to roll up and separate.
The second step is to ERASE them off with a dry washcloth followed by a wet washcloth.
The layers of your skin tell a story, and you can decide whether or not the story will be good or bad. At Camille Coton, we say, why not make it great? Erasing the dead skin cells frees up your natural glow. It makes it possible to enjoy the inherent beauty in your skin instead of covering it with unnecessary junk.
This concept is applicable to your life and relationships as well. The best elements of life are the things that are underneath the ugly stuff. We all have some: regret, grief, stress, etc. All of these things will come sometimes, but they don’t have to be your end all be all. Who are you underneath that stress that’s taking a toll on you? Who are you underneath that fear that’s holding you back from accomplishing your goals? Probably someone who is brave, kind, and ready to tackle the next thing in your life.
Say yes to a new start this January.
Erase past disappointments, failures, and insecurities. In turn, erase the unnecessary layers from your skin and let your natural glow shine through!

Smooth: New Skin and a New You
Smooth your skin and your life!
Does your skin feel rough and tired instead of smooth and soft? Does your life ever feel like that, too? If you’re honest, you could probably say yes to both questions on some occasions. Sometimes life gets you down and it’s hard to enjoy each day. If you can relate, the New Year is a great time to ask yourself this question: Is there anything in my life that’s dragging me down? It’s easy for us to get so caught up in all of the little things that we forget to let go of the people, activities, and ideas that aren’t adding value to our lives or getting us closer to our goals.
Purging the negativity from your environment can make a huge difference in productivity and overall mood. In the same way, smoothing the unnecessary layers from your skin allows the best parts of your complexion to shine through.
The first step in Camille Coton’s skincare regimen is to Smooth.
Our skin is often a mirror of what is going on under the surface. If you’re stressed out, your skin will show it. If you’re sleep deprived, your eyes will most likely be home to a couple of lovely dark circles. Take charge of your skin and your life by smoothing away the unnecessary elements from each.
Camille Coton’s soft microdermabrasion cream takes fine lines and wrinkles and minimizes their appearance on your face. It uses plant extracts like chamomile, rosemary, and lavender to create an anti-inflammatory effect that leaves the skin detoxed, toned, and hydrated. In addition, the microdermabrasion cream contains the nourishing benefits of vitamin-rich almond oil. The inclusion of natural oils helps hydrate your skin without causing breakouts or clogging pores. After use, your skin feels softer and smoother.
Along with smoother skin, intend to have a smoother life in 2016.
It’s time to let go of the dead skin cells and any negativity in your life. Shed off the unnecessary layers that are only dragging you down! Embrace the changes of the New Year and look for opportunities along the way. Life will throw some corners at you, but with the right attitude, they can turn into smoother, softer paths just waiting for you to navigate!
